What our customers have to say

OEM toner vs. compatible toner - which should I choose?

At Advanced Business Concepts, we recommend two types of toner, OEM and compatible toner. We carry both.

We can get OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) toner from a number of manufacturers. OEM toner is the toner made by the maker of the printer. For example, if you have a Hewlett-Packard laser printer, the OEM toner would be a Hewlett-Packard laser toner. OEM toners are extremely high quality and will produce high quality prints, but they can be expensive.

Another great option is a compatible toner. Compatible toners are manufactured by a third party. They are slightly different from the OEM toners but are made of all new parts and are made to a similar quality as OEM toners. They work in name-brand printers and produce quality prints. The big advantage to compatible toner is cost, which can be significantly lower than OEM toners.

We are toner experts in Utah and can help you decide the best toner options for your needs and budget.

Which kind of printer is better?

The one with a toner/drum combination cartridge or a separate toner cartridge and drum?

Printers with either a combination cartridge or separate toner and drum work well. Advanced Business Concepts supplies both. Many people ask what the difference is between a toner cartridge and a drum. The toner cartridge contains toner powder. The drum unit is an electrically charged cylinder that takes an image and combines it with the toner powder, heat, and pressure to make the print. Both of these components are needed to make a print in any laser printer.

If you have a printer that takes a combination toner and drum cartridge, the advantage is that the print quality will remain high during the life of the cartridge. If your printer has the toner and drum separate, the advantage is that the toner cartridge is often cheaper than the toner/drum combo cartridge. But, it’s possible that as the drum starts to wear out, print quality can be affected. With many printers with the toner and drum separate, you still have to replace the drum occasionally, an additional cost. Some printers need a new drum after every 3-4 toner cartridge replacements. These requirements vary printer to printer.

Before buying a printer, consult its user’s manual. Knowing how often you will have to replace components may affect what printer you buy. When you look at the costs of buying combo cartridges vs. replacing drums and separate toner cartridges, the printers with the separate components tend to be slightly cheaper to operate but are similar to the printers with the toner/drum combo cartridges.

Colors of toner

At Advanced Business Concepts, we sell black toner and an all-in- one toner with color (CMYK) plus black, both standard on most printers.

Standard yield vs. high yield toner—which is better?

When shopping around for toners, you may be thinking of cartridge price, not of yield (the number of pages a toner cartridge will print). Yield, however, is really important to consider. If you are looking at standard cartridges, only buy cartridges with a yield of 2,000 pages or more.

At Advanced Business Concepts, we are excited to offer -high-yield toner cartridges. These cartridges cost less than double the price of a standard cartridge but offer a yield of almost 3 times the prints. For example, the HP CE505X standard cartridge for the LaserJet O5X has a page yield of 2,300. The HP CE505X high yield toner has a page yield of 6,500.
